This is also tea-and-coffee country, and the lush green plantations of the two crops are not easily missed. You will cross over the river Tana, the longest in Kenya, and in parts of its course, notorious for its crocodiles. The soil here is fertile, and easily bears banana and pineapple fruit. Past Kikuyu country, we drive around through the leeward side of Mt. Kenya. Here, the weather and landscape change character as the influence of the Equator becomes pronounced (the equator divides the country into two imaginary, almost equal portions) Four hours later, and to the west of Mt. Kenya, we arrive at the Sweetwaters game ranch, famous for its chimpanzee conservation program. East of the Sweetwaters ranch is the Aberdares range of mountains.
Lunch and accommodation is available at the Sweetwaters ranch.
